One of the perks of living at 7 Pointe Apartments is that it’s close to some great outdoor attractions in Indianapolis. The Monon Trail is probably the most well known nearby attraction, but if you’re looking for a place to walk, run, or bicycle outdoors that’s not as heavily traveled, these are some of the best options for enjoying fresh air and fall foliage:
Central Canal Towpath
As the name implies, this broad path runs along a canal, between Broad Ripple and 30th Street. It’s mostly unpaved, and the crushed stone surface keeps a lot of casual bicyclists (and rollerbladers) away. Generally, you won’t encounter many other people on the towpath, and it offers splendid views of the Butler University grounds, along with a variety of trees along the way.
The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park
A section of the towpath runs through this art and nature park on the grounds of Newfields (formerly known as the Indianapolis Museum of Art). Sites to see include interactive exhibits and sculptures, wetlands, meadows, and a 35-acre tree-lined lake. You might even catch a glimpse of some interesting migratory birds here.
Crown Hill Cemetery
This sprawling, Victorian-era cemetery on 38th Street is home to more than 150 tree species, which makes it one of the best places to see a stunning array of fall foliage. Make the steep ascent to the tomb of James Whitcomb Riley, and you can see the entire cemetery, with a view of downtown Indianapolis. (Cyclists are welcome here but are required to observe speed limits).
Fall Creek Parkway Trail
This trail offers an easy cycling route to downtown. From 7 Pointe, you can pick up the trail at 46th Street and head southwest along Fall Creek to Central Avenue, then head south to downtown. Along the way, you’ll see mature trees, stately homes, and a variety of historic buildings.
